Serious complications of diabetes impact nearly every organ system and are linked to hyperlipidemia and hyperglycemia. Studies in the Schaffer lab probe mechanisms that drive metabolic stress responses to nutrient excess. Our long term goals are development of new treatments and preventative strategies to improve the lives of patients with diabetes.
